More and more merchants and e-merchants are banking on social proof, thanks to customer reviews. But beware: the collection, the moderation and the publication of online reviews are regulated by a strict legal framework.
France : Decree 2017-1436 of September 29, 2017
Since January 1, 2018, Decree No. 2017-1436 of September 29, 2017, sets out certain rules that must be respected by trusted third parties such as Verified Reviews but also by merchants. More details here if you have a French website.
Europe : The EU Directive 2019/2161 ("Omnibus Directive")
The Omnibus Directive aims to strengthen the protection of European consumers. The latter aims above all to strengthen the reliability of customer reviews. And this, to fight against false reviews and ensure authentic feedback. Since May 28, 2022, merchants and e-merchants who collect product reviews must display :
- The control and verification procedures applied. ;
- The verification method used to ensure that the reviews published are from consumers who have used or purchased the products.
If your customer review collection, management, and distribution process is carried out with the trusted third party Verified Reviews by SKEEPERS, don't worry: our solution meets all legal requirements!
