Today, the collect, moderation, and restitution of reviews obey very strict rules, particularly because of the various European regulations in force.
Directive 2019/2161
On May 28, 2022, a new European directive came into force. Its objective? Harmonize and strengthen the protection of consumers, as well as the reliability of customer reviews. This is the Omnibus Directive, and it concerns all companies.
For example, this directive requires brands to display the control and verification procedures applied to reviews and the means used to ensure that the reviews published come from consumers who have used or purchased the products.
It also prohibits businesses from submitting false reviews or manipulating consumer reviews or recommendations, for example by publishing only positive reviews and deleting negative ones.
How do I delete an old review?
When you receive a review, you have the possibility to respond to it and report it via your back-office with a legitimate reason within three months of its publication. After this period, the review can only be refused if it contains personal data, if you have intervened in the processing of the dispute and the consumer wishes to modify his or her review.
What if the product no longer corresponds to the reviews?
If your product/service has completely changed and the reviews are no longer for the correct product or service, you will need to create a new product page so that you can post new reviews. For further assistance, please contact our technical support.
